The House of Cards actress said that she hasn’t publicly spoken about it up until now.
The shooting of the 2015 Fantastic Four film was tainted with an acrimonious dispute that happened between Josh Trank (director), producers, and the stars of the film. Kate Mara was one of the leading figures of the cast. Her character was Sue Storm, a superhero with the power to make herself invisible at will.
Mara has reflected on some bad memories that have stayed with her ever since her time on the sets of Fantastic Four. She talked in detail about the movie in her latest interview with the Television Academy. Mara has shared that though she does not regret doing the movie as one of the co-stars is now her husband; she has some regrets of not responding differently to those unfavorable situations.
She elaborated her point by mentioning the fact that a similar horrible thing had happened on a different movie set (she didn’t mention the name of the movie). She admitted that she did face some misogyny while working in those two movies, and she believes that the fact that there were only a few women present on the sets caused those men to act in that way. She remarked that her two worst experiences as an actress have happened on the sets of the movies which were being helmed by a male director. However, this does not mean she has always gotten along with a female director. What she faced while working on the sets of the “Fantastic Four” and that other movie was quite different than a casual disliking.
“It was a power dynamic thing,” she said. She also remarked a fact that in those two movies, almost everyone who was working was male, and she was one of the few women walking around.
Kate Mara was indeed the only woman in the leading figures of the “Fantastic Four.” Other than her, Jamie Bell (Mara’s husband), Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller were the leading figures.
Kate Mara, renowned for her role as Zoe Barnes in the hit Netflix show House of Cards, has also spoken to Collider about her bad experiences on the sets of Fantastic Four. She expressed her regret to Collider that it would have been better for her if she had let her instincts take over. She remarked the fact that when you are paid to do something, and there is a thing that is not letting you do that, you have the right to stand up and speak for yourself.
Kate Mara was last seen in the 2020 film “A Teacher.”
