Do You Want to Set Up a New Chromebook? Here’s How

Have you recently invested in a Chromebook and want to set it up? Even if you haven’t purchased a new Chromebook and want to start fresh, setting it up from scratch is no rocket science.

A commercial going on while binge-watching your favorite show? That’s all you need, a little time and a good Wi-Fi connection. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started!

Setting Up a Chromebook from Scratch

Before getting started, make sure that your Chromebook’s battery is full. Though when you get a new Chromebook, mostly it comes with a full battery. However, if you feel the need to plug in the same before beginning the process, it’s a good idea.

The steps to set up a new Chromebook are:

  1. Switch on the Chromebook.

  2. Enter your Gmail account email address when prompted.

  3. Hit the ‘Next’ button.

  4. Now, enter the password of your Gmail account.

  5. Click on the ‘Next’ button.

  6. Some people like putting up additional security in the form of two-factor authentication. Therefore, if you have a verification code, enter the same. In case you use an alternate verification method, go ahead with that.

  7. You’ll be signed in with the Google account. Thus, a pop-up menu will open, informing you about the information that syncs with the Chromebook. To check the information, tap on the ‘Review sync options following setup’ option.

  8. Once checked, click on the ‘Accept and continue’ button in the lower-right corner of the window.

  9. A new window mentioning Google Play terms of service will open. Check all the options by scrolling down.

Note: You can also mark the checkbox for ‘disable Google Drive backups.’ However, it is not recommended.

  1. If you don’t want any apps or services to track your location, uncheck the checkbox for the ‘Use location’ option.

  2. Mark the checkbox for the ‘Review your Google Play options following setup’ if you want to go through the permissions.

  3. Click on the ‘Accept’ option.

  4. The next window prompts you to ‘Take a tour’ to familiarize you with everything on your Chromebook. However, if you don’t want it, click on the ‘X’ icon in the top-right corner.

  5. Notably, if you have extensions already installed on Google Chrome, it’ll sync and install by default. The pre-installed Android apps will also need updates; therefore, click on ‘Time’ in the bottom-right corner of the window.

  6. Select the ‘Update All’ option in the notification regarding app updates.

  7. The apps will begin updating. While the apps get updated, return to the Home tab by clicking the back button.

  8. A popup window will open, suggesting you to install new applications on your Chromebook. Thus, mark the checkbox for all the apps you want to install.

  9. After selecting the apps, hit the ‘Install’ button.

This is it! Once all the selected apps get installed, you’re all set up. Now, the only remaining task is to sign in on websites with your login information.

Though it involves a lot of steps to set up a new Chromebook, there’s nothing easier than this. It’ll take a few minutes before you finally start using your new Chromebook. Why wait for any professional to do it for you when you can do it your own?
