The new episode of WandaVision has alluded to the fact that veteran actor Nicolas Cage, renowned for his role of Johnny Blaze in the films “Ghost Rider” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” can finally make a return to Marvel Studios.
The avid watchers of the Disney+ show “WandaVision,” who strictly refrained from reading or watching any spoilers, enjoyed seeing Evan Peters’ appearance as Quicksilver. His appearance in the series established the fact that literally, anything can happen in “WestView,” and it also marked the appearance of the very first official member of X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It is obviously a big achievement in obtaining an X-Men character in their first Disney+ series, but not only that, the Marvel Studios have the entire team in their armory after a deal struck by Disney saw them owning a Marvel Studios’ competitor, Fox.
The great assemblage of superheroes has not only made things interesting for Kevin Feige and company, but it has also given him and others some headache. Now, fans are theorizing on who should be the next one to show up in an MCU project.
And it has rekindled a spirit among Marvel fans to pitch for the return of Nicolas Cage’s iteration of Ghost Rider to make a fascinating return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was last seen in the character in the film “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” Now, recent fan theories and raging speculations have alluded to the fact that the actor could very well return to the studios as Ghost Rider.
It can be stated that Marvel will face no technical issues in bringing back the iconic character should they wish to include him in the scheme of things. All the intellectual property rights were owned by Marvel Studios via a deal, which happened in the year 2013. The deal saw Robbie Reyes’ version of the character getting a debut in Agents of Shield, and the recurring minutes in the series was even leading to a spinoff getting made at Hulu. However, the spinoff series eventually got canceled alongside some Marvel-Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher).
However, there is some caveat here.
Nicolas Cage’s iteration in the two films “Ghost Rider” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” is the intellectual property of Sony, so including that in the MCU storyline might be slightly more difficult than including a new version of the character.
The comicbook.com has rightly pointed out in their blogs. Bringing the exact version of the character in the MCU might be a little difficult because of the rights problems with Sony. However, the website has also pointed out that if Marvel can strike a deal with Sony for Spider-Man, then what is wrong with Ghost Rider.
They have offered a solution to the problem by saying that Cage could play the role of Robbie Reyes’s teacher before letting him take on his baton.
It can also be argued that Evan Peters might not be playing the version of Fox’s character, but an entirely different character (multiverse shenanigans).
Things have just become interesting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so you better hang around to know more.
